Open the tab that matches the gear type (Lenses, Cameras, Flashes, or Accessories) and tap the "+" button. You can either browse a built-in catalog ("Browse Common Lenses", "Browse Common Cameras", or "Browse Common Flashes") to auto-fill specs, or enter everything manually. Filter the browser by brand and mount to find your item quickly.
When adding a lens, camera, or flash, tap "Browse Common Lenses", "Browse Common Cameras", or "Browse Common Flashes". Use the brand and mount filters at the top to narrow results. The lens catalog includes 350+ lenses from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma, Tamron and others. The camera catalog covers 97 DSLR and mirrorless bodies since 2018 across 11 major brands. The flash catalog covers 45+ speedlights, studio strobes, and ring/macro flashes from 2015–2025 — Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Godox, Profoto, Yongnuo, Neewer, Nissin, Panasonic, and OM System — with TTL, HSS, guide number, color temperature, and wireless system pre-filled on tap.
Tap any item in your collection to view its details, then tap the edit button (pencil icon) in the top right to modify specs, purchase info, rating, or notes. To delete, swipe left in the list and tap "Delete" — or mark a lens or camera as "Sold" to preserve history without cluttering active inventory.
When adding or editing any piece of gear, scroll to the "Purpose & Rating" section. Tap the stars to rate from 1–5, or tap a filled star to remove the rating. You can sort each tab by rating to see your favorites first.
From the Lenses tab, tap the chart icon in the toolbar to view your collection's coverage. The analysis shows: 1) focal length coverage, 2) aperture range visualization, 3) a focal length vs aperture scatter plot, and 4) gap analysis identifying missing focal lengths or aperture ranges.
When adding or editing any piece of gear, scroll to "Insurance (Optional)" and tap "Add Warranty Expiry Date". Enter the warranty end date and optional details. Anything expiring within 30 days triggers alerts so you never miss a claim window.
Tap the dollar sign icon ($) in the toolbar to view the Gear Value screen. It shows total purchase value and insured value by currency across every equipment type, plus a sortable list of all gear from most to least expensive.
Go to Import/Export (tap the up-arrow icon). Each equipment type has its own CSV so you can back up lenses, cameras, flashes, and accessories separately — or export everything for full coverage including specifications, ratings, purchase info, warranties, and notes.
Go to Import/Export and choose the import option for the relevant equipment type. Select your CSV file. The importer automatically detects duplicates and skips them. After import you'll see a summary of total records, successfully imported, and skipped duplicates.
When editing any piece of gear, record who you lent it to and the date. A dedicated "Lent Out" screen shows every item currently borrowed — lenses, cameras, flashes, or accessories — so you always know where your gear is. Tap an item there to mark it as returned.
You can flag any piece of gear as having fungus (lenses & cameras), mark whether you still have the original box and packaging, and track its functional status. Visual indicators appear throughout your collection so problem gear is easy to spot at a glance.
The Wishlist lets you add any gear you plan to buy — lenses, cameras, flashes, or accessories — set a target price, and assign a priority (High / Medium / Low). Sort by priority, date added, name, or price. Once you buy an item, mark it as purchased to move it into your inventory.
Gear Kits let you group any combination of lenses, cameras, flashes, and accessories into named sets for different shooting scenarios — a "Wedding" kit, "Travel" kit, "Astro" kit, and so on. The kit view shows which items are available and which are currently lent out so you can pack smarter before every shoot.
Each tab has its own filter bar at the bottom (iPhone) or left sidebar (iPad). For lenses: sort by brand, rating, focal length, aperture, weight, purchase date, or release year; filter by prime/zoom, brand, mount, weather sealing, or stabilization. Cameras, flashes, and accessories each offer type-appropriate filters and sorting.
No. All your data is stored locally on your device. GearGrove doesn't sync to any cloud service, which means your entire gear collection stays completely private and secure. You control your data through manual CSV exports (Pro feature).

GearGrove does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or log in with any service. Your data remains completely private and under your control.
GearGrove works completely offline and does not require an internet connection to function. The app does not communicate with any external servers or services, except when processing In-App Purchases through Apple's secure payment system.
We do NOT share, sell, rent, or trade any of your information with third parties. Since all data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to your gear collection or personal information.
